Happy Tuesday, neighbors! For those who celebrate, I hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day weekend. I spent part of mine at the plant sale and came back with approximately three times more starts than I have room for. 🍅 Praying to the tomato gods that this is our year.
🌱 Speaking of plant sales…not-so-random fact: did you know Wedgwood is home to Seattle's oldest and largest P-Patch? It dates back to the mid-1960s, and the "P" originally stood for Picardo — the Italian immigrant family who farmed that land from 1922 to 1965. There are now 52 P-Patches across the city. Ours was first.
💦 North Seattle College and the YMCA have signed a letter of intent to explore a shared community pool on the NSC campus — early days, but big news if you've ever tried to find lap time or kids' swim lessons north of the Ship Canal.
🌍 The World Cup is six weeks out and Seattle is a host city — the buzz (and the ticket prices) are very much building. If you didn't score tickets, the Fan Zones are free — Seattle Center, Waterfront Park, Pacific Place, and Victory Hall in SoDo are all connected by a new 4.25-mile Unity Loop. And good news for commuters: Seattle is pausing major road construction from June 8 to July 6. seattlefwc26.org
🏈 Seahawks fans — the 2026 schedule drops this Thursday. Hard to be too calm about it after February.
🥕🥦 And Last call! — We’d love to be a CSA pick-up location for the Wedgwood neighborhood this summer but we need just a few more to sign up with Sound Sustainable Farms. If you'd want in, please let me know!

Think menu planning, volunteer wrangling, and keeping hungry families fed on meet days. 10–15 hours per meet across six dates. Apply by May 25 - more information here.

🔍 Karen's Local Pick
🧇 Karen's Pick: Luu's Cafe (3252 NE 85th St — open daily 11am–7pm)
This one is my oldest daughter's pick, and honestly I'm just grateful we live close to it. Luu's is a little Vietnamese café on 85th that does boba drinks and bubble waffles — the kind of place that doesn't need to try hard because the food does the talking. My oldest is there for the bubble waffles every time. My youngest, who has strong opinions about boba and a soft spot for Bobaup, insists Luu's is better than any of the chains that have popped up around town lately. High praise. Open daily 11am–7pm.
Beyond Northeast Seattle

Nothing like a slushie on an 80° day
🍹 Phinney Station (7418 Greenwood Ave N — open daily from noon, Sat–Sun from 9am)
A friend tipped me off and I finally made it over on one of those perfect 80° days last week. Phinney Station is what happens when an old auto repair shop gets reinvented as an astroturf patio bar with food trucks, open seating, and slushies on tap — at least four of them, including a frosé, a jalapeño watermelon margarita, and a non-alcoholic lemonade for the designated drivers and kids in your crew. I can confirm the frosé is perfectly sippable — not too thick, not too thin, just right. The jalapeño watermelon margarita — I had one sip, which was enough to know it earns its name. Food trucks on site handle the food. The vibe is equal parts neighborhood hangout and accidental great afternoon. Would love it on a grey day too, but the sun didn't hurt.
