Welcome to another week of Northeast Seattle Wire! Wasn’t last week’s weather just glorious 🌞 - let’s hope it’s not a tease…while we wait for the sun to return, here’s what’s happening in our neck of the woods:

  • Some folks are ribbing Drew Carey’s promo of the FIFA World Cup (oops…)

  • New trains are coming to Seattle this summer — Amtrak's next-generation Airo trainsets are headed to the Cascades route, and the $300M SoDo facility being built to service them just hit the halfway mark.

  • Ichiro’s statue reveal last week accidentally unveiled a broken bat. Ichiro took it in stride, joking "I didn't think Mariano [Rivera] would come out here and break the bat." The bat has since been repaired.

  • Good news for Magnuson Park — after a rough few years, crime is down and the Seattle PD is making its neighborhood officer pilot program permanent, with three officers now patrolling on foot and bike year-round. Seattle Times article here.

The Fish Store’s fun back entry

🐟 Just up Lake City Way, The Fish Store has been a neighborhood fixture since 1970 — the oldest continuously operating pet store in Washington State. My kids have bought all their fish and tank supplies there, and every visit comes with a side of genuine education (and axolotl sighting) — the staff will walk you through feeding, care, and whatever questions your little fish enthusiasts dream up.

Owner Dan has been with the store since 2009 (an employee since 1996!) and it shows in how much they care about sending every fish home to a happy tank. 📍 12320 Lake City Way NE. (and there’s parking in the back!)
