And just like that, we’re into late April! For those you away from spring break, welcome back and best wishes for an easy re-entry. Here are a few updates from our neck of the woods:
🥯 Hey Bagel (located in U Village) took home Best Bagel at BagelFest West in LA!
🦭 ICYMI: Onion, a blind harbor seal who navigates by sound and whiskers, just found a new home at Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma. A great excuse for a day trip. Read more →
⚽ With less than 60 days until FIFA World Cup matches kick off at Lumen Field, Seattle is shifting from planning to execution mode. Expect major changes on match days - a large pedestrian-only zone around the stadium, parking restrictions starting as early as 2am, and no public parking at the venue. The strong message from transit agencies: plan ahead and leave the car at home! Read more →

🏒 Seattle Adult Hockey Draft Tournament (Kraken Community Iceplex) - Friday–Sunday, April 24–26 - If you play hockey and have ever wanted to spend a weekend getting drafted onto a random team, playing three games, and earning a one-of-a-kind jersey in the process — this is your weekend. The Draft Tournament lands at the Kraken's own practice facility for a Friday night draft party followed by a full round-robin tournament through Sunday. It's part competitive, part social, and apparently a pretty good time. Register at .
🎶 Oh Wonder at Neptune Theatre (1303 NE 45th St) - Saturday, May 2 - London-based duo Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West have been quietly building one of indie pop's most devoted followings since their debut in 2015, releasing a song a month for a year before most people knew their names. Now they have tens of millions of streams on Spotify. Their sound sits somewhere between dreamy synth-pop and soulful R&B — lush, layered, and made for late nights. They're touring behind their latest record, with Wrabel opening. Doors at 7pm, show at 8pm. Tickets at stgpresents.org.

⛸️ Beyond Northeast Seattle

Seattle Biscuit Company’s unassuming storefront
🥐 Worth the Drive: Seattle Biscuit Company
This one's my pick for a date brunch - or an honest solo morning out. Seattle Biscuit Company in Fremont does Southern-style biscuits with locally sourced ingredients, and my order is always the Ché. There can be a wait for a table, but they're generous with coffee while you hang tight, which makes it feel less like waiting and more like the meal has already started. Closes early, so plan ahead.
4001 Leary Way NW — Mon–Fri 8am–1pm, Sat–Sun 8am–2pm.
🔍 Karen's Local Pick

Zaina never disappoints!
🥙 Karen's Local Pick: Zaina Food Drinks & Friends
If you've driven past the 8000 block of Lake City Way a hundred times and never stopped, this is your sign to stop next time! We have been patrons of Zaina for well over a decade - we usually get the gyros platter to share, plus a side of cauliflower — and our girls make a beeline for the fresh pita & hummus every time. The falafel and shawarma are just as good, and the hummus is the kind you keep scooping until it's gone. Portions are generous and it's exactly the kind of place you're glad is this close to home.
Open daily 11am–11pm at 8000 Lake City Way NE — dine in, takeout, or delivery.
