Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. I always get excited for summer this time of year (and start wondering if it will actually arrive in June, or if the Seattle weather gods have other plans). I'm also reminded we are in the final stretch of the school year - summer plans are taking over parent conversations, neighborhood Facebook groups, and everyone's asking about camps. Speaking of camps, if you're still figuring it out, I've been keeping a running list. You can check it out here!

🚇 There's a lot of momentum around Sound Transit's ST3 expansion right now - Seattle council members, business groups, and transit advocates have all been pushing hard for clarity on when light rail reaches Ballard. The latest: Sound Transit says it doesn't have a timeline yet, and the conversation is getting louder. I've personally loved how much the light rail has made getting around the city easier, so I get why people want it extended. → The Urbanist has the full rundown

🏪 A few folks have asked what's next for the Fred Meyer near 130th and Lake City Way since it closed - I'm keeping an eye on it and will share anything I learn.

⚽ Random World Cup fact: Lumen Field is being temporarily renamed Seattle Stadium for the tournament - FIFA requires all venues to drop corporate branding, which means even the 305-foot rooftop logos are getting covered up. The stadium is also getting a $19.4 million makeover: new natural grass, fresh paint, and a full security perimeter. Seattle hosts six matches between June and July, including the US vs. Australia on June 19.

Lumen Field losing its name (temporarily) for the World Cup

🚧 One traffic heads-up: eastbound SR 520 closes Friday night (11pm, May 29) through Monday morning (5am, June 1) - I-5 to Montlake Blvd, including the on-ramp. The crossing itself stays open, but plan your route. Full details at WSDOT.

🔍 Karen's Local Pick

Project 9 Brewing  |  1409 NE 80th St

One of my favorite spots to meet up with people when the weather finally cooperates - and it doesn't hurt that it's stumbling distance from home. Project 9 has a great outdoor setup, the kind of place where you sit down for one beer and somehow it turns into the whole afternoon. The beers are genuinely good (I've started picking up a four-pack as a host gift, and people are always excited about it). The Mexican Seoul food truck pairs perfectly, and if that's not your thing, it's easy to bring your own - Zaina and Himitsu Teriyaki are right across the street. Kid friendly too.

(Open Mon–Thu 7:30am–10pm, Fri 7:30am–11pm, Sat 9am–11pm)  project9brewing.com

✈️ Worth the Trip

Taiyaki stuffed with red bean paste - delish!

My daughter's birthday party had a Georgetown stop, which meant I needed to investigate for myself. It's a hike from Wedgwood - I won't pretend otherwise - but their Taiyaki soft serve cones made it more than worth it. The cone is griddled fish-shaped, crispy, and sturdy enough to actually hold together. You can go traditional with red bean paste (my choice) or branch out to Nutella and other toppings. The matcha-ube swirl is the popular move if you want to go that route.

(6014 12th Ave S, Georgetown; daily 12–9pm. Hours can vary — check @matchamansea on Instagram before heading down.)
