Happy Tuesday, neighbors! A quick thank-you before I get into anything else: suggestions have been pouring in, and they’ve been great! Neighbors have been sending in events I never would have found on my own, local businesses worth knowing about, and a handful of things that genuinely made this issue what it is. Keep them coming! Reply to this email anytime.

🎉 A quick neighborhood shoutout before the week's news: congrats to Elise Pinelli, a Holy Names Academy senior and lifelong northeast Seattle resident, who was just awarded a $2,500 P.E.O. STAR Scholarship - a competitive national award recognizing young women for leadership, academics, and community service. She's headed to Santa Clara University in the fall to study bioengineering. We're proud of you, Elise!

🌿 If you've been going to The Herbalist on NE 65th for years — or decades — you've probably already heard. After 42 years, they're closing in June. I’m uncertain of the exact date but I’m definitely heading back one more time to stock up on teas & herbs.

🌽 On a happier note: the Lake City Farmers Market opens this Thursday June 4. And if you’re curious about other Farmers Markets in the area you can find more here. (We’re regulars of the U District market - highly recommend!)

⚽ With the first Seattle World Cup match two weeks out (Belgium vs. Egypt, June 15), check out this useful fan guide from Visit Seattle. It’s worth bookmarking — itineraries, fan zone info, and transit tips for match days and beyond. → A Guide for World Cup Fans

🚲 One small city note: Seattle is waiving commercial e-cargo bike permit fees through end of 2026 — timed in part around World Cup traffic this summer. If you know a local business that does deliveries, it's worth a look.

🐾 Well Beyond Northeast Seattle: Poochella in Marysville

A neighbor tip this week, and a good one for dog people: Poochella is back at Asbery Field in Marysville this Saturday, June 6, from 10am–2pm — and it's free. Think costume parade, doggie obstacle course, agility demonstrations, dog tricks, small dog races, vendor booths, and a dog washing station (weather permitting). Sponsored by the City of Marysville Parks & Rec, easy parking all around. It's a haul — about 45 minutes north on I-5 — but apparently the kind of thing you go every year once you've gone once. marysvillewa.gov/Poochella

🚗 Shine and Drive | Mobile auto detailing by Nathan Hale students — Pinehurst

Support your local students! Two Nathan Hale high school students are running a mobile car detailing service out of Pinehurst, and by all accounts they do excellent work. You bring your car to their driveway, or they can come to you for an additional fee. Great way to get a deep clean and support a couple of local kids building something. 🔍 Karen's Local Pick

Yes, another brewery! This one has been in our rotation for years — and if you haven't been to the Lake City location, it deserves a spot in yours too. Elliott Bay is the kind of place that works for everyone at the table, which when you have little kids is basically the whole ballgame. My order is always a burger and the sweet potato gaufrettes, and I have yet to be talked out of it. The space is easy, the menu is genuinely good, and nobody's rushing you out. They just won gold at the 2026 World Beer Cup, which tracks — the beer has always been the real thing. Family-owned organic brewery since 1997, and the Lake City pub has been part of this neighborhood since 2012.

Open daily at 11am. (12537 Lake City Way NE — parking behind the building.)
