Happy Tuesday! Few things make me happier than the moment Spooner Farms sets up their berry stand near the Wedgwood Post Office — and it's back. They open at 9am every day and go until sold out, so don't sleep on it. Fresh strawberries, right there on 35th. Summer is actually here. 🍓

Spooner is back!

⚽ In case you haven't been counting down: the World Cup kicks off in two days, with the first Seattle match on June 15. If you're still figuring out where to watch, I put together a post with the best bars and viewing spots. One place worth rooting for: the George and Dragon Pub in Fremont, a 30-year-old soccer institution, has been serving mocktails only since May 1 after a permit snafu pulled their liquor license. As of June 1 they were still dry 0 with nine days to go before the first match. EEK! Rooting for them to get it sorted in time.

🏀 Seattle's basketball moment is stacking up nicely right now. The Seattle Storm — bought in 2008 for $10 million and now valued at an estimated $425 million — just got a beautiful feature in Fortune about how they've spent the last 16 years building the basketball culture the NBA now wants to return to. Worth a read.

🏆 And speaking of the NBA: the Finals has a Seattle thread running through it. Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson is a Seattle native and O'Dea alum whose father, John Johnson, was on the 1979 championship Sonics team. On the other side, Knicks star Jalen Brunson's dad Rick briefly played for the Sonics too — the full story is a good one. As for the real Sonics news: Commissioner Adam Silver confirmed at Game 1 that Seattle remains a target for expansion, with the league's Board of Governors expected to weigh in by end of year.

Know someone who'd enjoy this? Forward it along — it really does help!

🌿 This issue is supported by Verdafield Summer Camps

If you've got a curious 4th–8th grader, Verdafield runs outdoor science camp right in Ravenna Park this summer. Blast Off! (July 6 & 13) has kids designing and launching rocket-powered vehicles. Power Up! (Aug 3 & 10) explores electrical circuits and builds renewable energy systems from scratch.

What makes it stand out is who's teaching: a former MIT/NASA spaceflight researcher, a Boeing Technical Fellow and UW professor, and the engineer who built guidance systems for the James Webb Space Telescope. Not a typical summer camp lineup.

Monday–Friday, 9am–4pm. $499/week. Full scholarships available. → camp.verdafield.com

📅 This Week's Notable Events

🏮 MAUM Market — Saturday, June 13, 11am–4pm (Hangar 30, Magnuson Park, 6310 NE 74th St)

MAUM — meaning "heart" in Korean — is a curated pop-up market celebrating Asian-owned small businesses, with ceramics, stationery, jewelry, home goods, art, and food. We tried to make it last fall and arrived too late — the crowds and parking situation got the better of us. Lesson learned: go early. Free to attend, RSVP on their site for vendor updates and day-of details. No pets inside the hangar.

🎸 Fiddler's Inn — June Live Music (9219 35th Ave NE) | June is stacked at Wedgwood's favorite dive — live music every Thursday and Friday at 7pm, two sets a night. This week: Chris Haugen & Marley Torres on June 11. Coming up: a BrewBQ with Stoup Brewing + Leif Totusek on June 13, Jeff Fielder & Keith Lowe on June 18, Spicebox on June 25, and a BrewBQ with Icicle Brewing + Beasley to close out the month on June 27.

🏘️ Snowberry Commons Virtual Info Session — Sunday, June 14, 7–8:30pm (Zoom)

A small group of north Seattle neighbors is working to form Snowberry Commons, a 55+ cohousing community — the kind of place where you live independently but actually know your neighbors. If you're curious about what that looks like, they're hosting a free Zoom info session on June 14 hosted by two of the members. No Zoom account needed. → View event details

📆 Also Happening

🍋 Meadowbrook Multi-Family Yard Sale | Saturday, June 13, 10am–3pm. A dead-end street of neighbors on 31st Ave NE is doing a big collective yard sale plus lemonade stand — lots of kid stuff. (10026 31st Ave NE, off 100th, between Maple Leaf Lutheran Church and the Waldorf School.)

🤽 View Ridge Water Polo | Registration is open for the 2026 summer season — and you don't need to be a View Ridge Swim & Tennis Club member to join. The team welcomes boys and girls ages 7–18 (no experience needed, just the ability to swim 25 yards), and non-members can try up to three practices before committing. Pre-season practices are underway on select Fridays and Sundays through June; the main season runs August 5–28. Members pay $135, non-members $170.

🎒 Ms. Tara's Preschool | A Wedgwood fixture for over 30 years, right next to Wedgwood Elementary, Ms. Tara's still has openings in her summer camp — twice a week, 9am–1pm, July 15 through August 28. Sign-ups are month by month, so no big commitment required. Great for ages 2.5–6 getting their first taste of a school or camp setting. Summer camp info can be found here. They are also offering an ‘Arts & Sports Camp’ in August.

Bagel Oasis (Ravenna)

I was first introduced to Bagel Oasis in college - which was a very, very long time ago. I wasn't living in Seattle then, but my Seattle native friends made it their mission to prove to this New Yorker that Seattle did, in fact, have legit bagels. They brought me here. Point made.

Bagel Oasis has been doing kettle-boiled, hearth-baked New York-style bagels since 1988 — right there on NE 65th in Ravenna, which means it's basically in our backyard. My order is always whatever just came out of the oven so I can rip and dip into cream cheese. There is no better way.

Open daily 7am–4pm at 2112 NE 65th St.
